Belgrade, 31 July 2010 (MIA) - The European Union has not submitted a draft-resolution on Kosovo to the United Nations, as its member state have been still coordinating their stand on this matter, Alternate Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas said Saturday in Belgrade.
At a joint press conference with Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, Droutsas said that the only sustainable solution for Western Balkan countries was the one that led them to the EU.
Droutsas, who is paying a two-day visit to Serbia, met late Friday with President Boris Tadic, who once again said that before the submission of the country's draft resolution on Kosovo, Belgrade had consulted its European partners.
Droutsas' visit to Belgrade aims to promote Athens' initiative for resuming of Serbia-Kosovo political dialogue after the announcement of the International Court of Justice advisory opinion that Kosovo's declaration of independence has not breached the international law. This afternoon, Droutsas will visit Pristina.
Earlier today, Belgrade daily 'Politika' reported that EU had neither drafted own resolution on Kosovo nor submitted it to its member-states, thus denying yesterday's report of Serbia's national TV network RTS that EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton produced such a document.
- We would certainly have known if there was such EU draft-resolution and if Catherine Ashton circulated it to all member states, but considering the fact that we haven't heard about it, we conclude that such document doesn't exist, an EU official told 'Politika'.
Yesterday, RTS said that that the Office of the EU High Representative, Catherine Ashton, had submitted a draft-resolution to the EU's members. The document accepts the opinion of the the International Court of Justice and urges Belgrade, Pristina to open a dialogue in the spirit of good-neighbourly relations.
- We respectfully accept the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice ruling of July 22, 2010 that Kosovo's declaration of independence is in accordance with the international law, which is the response to the request of the General Assembly, RTS cites the draft resolution.
The alleged document also urges the UN General Assembly to encorage Belgrade and Pristina to discuss cooperation, promote neighborly economic, democratic development and regional stability in line with their European future. lk/fd/13:15
